Coach operator MegaBus.com, in partnership with the Scottish Daily Record, is offering 100,000 seats to 12 UK destinations for 50p each way. The promotion is running through November. Possibly destinations for the 50p promotion include London, Manchester and Aberdeen. Rides must take place during the week from Monday through Thursday and booked through their website. New EU travel rules regarding liquid items on commercial flights will take effect November 6.Restrictions to carryon luggage go into effect April 17. Passengers will be limited to brining on containers that contain no more than 100 milliliters of liquid. Furthermore, the containers will need to fit within a clear plastic bag for inspection. The rules are less strict for liquid packed in checked baggage. A recent initiative by some airlines to increase fares by $6 per round trip was canceled Sunday. The move was prompted when United Airlines went back to the old rates on Saturday. They were the airlines that had initiated the rate hike. Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines followed the leader on Sunday by reverting to their original fares. Singapore Airlines has announced a new in-flight feature for those demanding an upscale experience while flying—Luxury Suites. The new feature is really a very wide seat that folds back and becomes a bed. While it’s big enough for two people, Singapore Airlines was quick to point out that it’s one per person. Before you run out to book your next flight on Singapore Airlines, you should be aware of the cost. According to the airline, luxury suites are $10,000 round trip. Estonia’s port of Tallinn received 312,478 cruise tourists this past season, which is about the same it received in the previous season. Earlier this year Estonia added a new port of call on the island of Saaremaa. 4,909 tourists visited Saaremaa in 2006’s season. Tallinna Sadam’s PR Manager Sven Ratassepp said that three cruise ships have already booked to visit Saaremaa in 2007. The ships are expected to bring 2,300 tourists, who are mainly British and Finnish. According to a report from Al-Bawaba, the Four Seasons Hotels plans to open a new property at The Pearl-Qatar in Qatar. The new property will feature 350 hotel rooms and will cater to the luxury market. It will be located in the Porto Arabia district. This new property will be the Four Seasons’ second in Qatar, which puts Qatar on a special list of the few countries with multiple Four Seasons properties. United Airlines launched its first-ever Asia-Pacific nonstop service from Washington, D.C. Sunday. The new flight will offer nonstop travel for passengers and cargo from Washington D.C. to Tokyo Narita, Japan. The new flight was celebrated by ceremony at Washington Dulles International Airport. Representatives of the Japanese Embassy and United Airlines were present. The new flight path will feature the Boeing 777 aircraft, which seats 252 passengers. United Airlines said the Boeing 777 will have 10 passengers in United First®, 45 in United Business®, and 198 in United Economy®. Nationwide News in Australia released a “Wildest destinations for 2007″ list Sunday. The destinations they choose are for tourists looking for a special “off the beaten track” type of vacation. Their list of 2007 destinations was gleamed from the soon-to-be released travel book, Lonely Planet Bluelist: The Best in Travel 2007. The Grand Hotel in Alabama, which was damaged in Hurricane Katrina, will be reopening at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. The Grand Hotel is owned by Marriott and was damaged in August 2005 when Hurricane Katrina came smashing ashore. “We’ve spent million of dollars putting it back exactly like it was,” said David Clark, the general manager of the Grand Hotel Marriott Resort. $50 million was spent on the renovation. |
