Philippines Experiences Tourism GrowthBy Jason A. Martin on November 3rd, 2006
The Philippines has always been a destination enjoyed by many tourists, but now even more travelers are choosing the country, and the tourism numbers are swelling. According to a report in the Philippine Daily Inquirer, the Philippines is approaching the 3 million foreign tourist mark, which would be an all-time high. Bobby Horrigan, general manager of the Discovery Suits in Ortigas, says the occupancy levels of hotels in some business districts went over 80%. Boracay is the most popular travel spot for tourists in the Philippines. To help preserve its beauty, resort owners are working to help preserve its environment, said Boracay Chamber of Commerce Head Charlie Uy. European tourists are one reason for the growth in the tourism industry. According to Philippine Tour Operators Association President Renato Contis, they stay for 10-15 days and spend at least $100 daily. Domestic tourism is on the rise in the Philippines as well. The increase in tourism numbers is expected to bring in more tourist-oriented businesses. Related Articles:Other Sections: Leave a Reply |
